Brookside Community Centre Wins Grant for Youngsters’ Talent Competition

I went along to present a grant to Charlie Farmer from the Brookside Community Centre today (Monday 5th January). The grant was provided by Barclay’s Bank to support local groups in their community activities. Charlie Farmer is a local hero, who has worked on behalf of our community for decades. I first met Charlie when he was setting up the Charville Community Centre back in the 1980s. At that time I was the Chair of the GLC’s Finance Committee and I awarded Charlie a grant to help open the new centre.

Charlie went on to assist in the setting up of the thriving Brookside Community Centre in Yeading and has ensured that this community centre is such a valuable resource for the whole community and for people of all ages and backgrounds. I am a trustee of the centre and know how hard he works on behalf of local community.

Charlie has applied for this grant to fund a talent competition for local young people in the spring. You will see in the interview that I confusingly refer to the Charville Community Centre when I mean the Brookside Community Centre. Apologies for this gaffe.
