This weekend was busy as usual visiting local community groups and suporting local events.
On Saturday morning in Hayes Town centre I joined the local Police and Councillors in raising funds for the Kicks Football project being run in Hayes recreation ground. In a link up with Queens Park Rangers football club the local police organise football training and matches for local young people each week in the evening in the park. The project attracts over 100 youngsters each week. I strongly support this initiative and we were out in the town centre on Saturday with a raffle to raise funds for floodlighting so that the football can go on through the winter when the nights get dark. Thanks to the hard work of the local Safer Neighbourhood Police teams we raised alot of funds and support.
In the evening I attended a fund raising function organised by the local Hayes Tamil community. The war in Sri Lanka has broken out again and many Tamil people are suffering. I am working to promote peace but also to secure assistance to those trapped in what has become again a very dangerous war zone. I interviewed a lady from the national Tamil Forum to explain what is happening to the Tamils and what could be a solution to the current conflict.

Its a shame that genocide is used. If we look at the LTTE - the Tamil Tigers who are supposed to be supporting the Tamil people. The UN has reported that they have shot and killed Tamils who have tried to leave occupied areas in the wake of an advancing Sri Lankan army.
A huge Tamil community live in Colombo, the capital, and nothing happens to them. Two weeks ago two LTTE aircaft tried to kamikazi into the city. One struck an office building, the other was shot down.
