Some months ago the Dower House in Harlington was badly damaged by a fire that is being investigated by the Police as a possible arson attack. The Dower House is at laest 300 years old and there is evidence of a much older building on this site. It is a nationally listed building. After the fire I convened a meeting for local residents with the local Conservation Panel, the local history society, the council, English Heritage and representatives of the owner of the building. Local residents are anxious that the house is saved from demolition and is fully restored. I raised in Parliament my worries about the loss of local heritage buildings and sites, including the Dower House, Harmondsworth Barn and Benlow Works. After our local campaigning I am pleased to report that work has started in earnest on securing the Dower House site and preserving and refurbishing the building. We must remain vigilant that this work is completed satisfactorily and the Dower House becomes once again one of our much cherished local heritage buildings.
