Climate Change Bill Passed in Parliament and John Grogan’s Early Day Motion Causes a Stir

The Climate Change Bill was passed in Parliament tonight. This was a tremendous success in our campaign to tackle climate change. The Government accepted our amendments to the Bill to include aviation emissions in the calculation of the overall reduction in carbon emissions to be achieved by the Government. This was a major breakthrough.

I want to thank all those many, many local constituents who supported this campaign, many of whom wrote to me with their messages of support. In my view this will curtail the expansion of airports and, in particular, will halt the development of a third runway at Heathrow.

John Grogan MP tabled his early day motion calling on the Government to rethink its plans for expanding Heathrow and this immediately gained widespread cross party support in Parliament and lots of coverage in the press and on radio and television.

I interviewed John in Parliament.
