Earlier this year many of us expressed our concerns about the loss of local heritage buildings and sites, bulldozed by developers. I convened a community conference to work with the local council’s conservation officers to map local heritage buildings and sites and to set up the appropriate protection. I am now convening a recall conference to report back on the progress so far and to set up a new conservation panel for Hayes and Harlington. The Community Conference is open to all local residents and community organisations. It takes place on 17th October at Barra Hall, Wood End Green Road, Hayes.
The programme is as follows:
10 am Registration and Tea/Coffee
10.30 Welcome and Explanation of the Background to and the Purpose of Meeting by John McDonnell MP
10.45 Charmian Baker - A Description of the Council’s Role in Protecting our Heritage and a Progress Report on the Recent heritage buildings and sites mapping exercise. This will include a presentation covering eligibility of heritage sites, some of the new suggestions, (examples of what it is proposed to add, and what it is proposed not to add). Also what happened to some already on the Local List, identifying one or two now listed, altered or demolished. The timetable from hereon, including details on future consultation and ways to be involved.
11.15 Questions and Answer Session
11.45 The Way Forward – A discussion on the establishment of a Conservation Panel for Hayes and Harlington and a Call for Volunteers.
Close about 12.30 with opportunity for brief outline of history of Barra Hall as we tour the building.
