Government Postpones Again Runway Decision

In July the Government promised that it would announce its decision on the development of a third runway and sixth terminal at Heathrow before Christmas.

Today (Thursday) Geoff Hoon, the Secretary of State for Transport, published a written statement saying thart the decision would now be postponed until January.

This means that many local people will continue to live with the threat of losing their homes and communities throughout another Christmas. This is a disgrace.

The Government needs to make a clear cut decision immediately and reject this runway proposal.

Many suspect that the reason for the delay is that there was such overwhelming opposition to Heathrow expansion in the recent public consultations. The Government has never been faced before by such a broad range of opposition and the opposition is continuing to grow day by day.

In addition the Government now realises that it will have an immense legal battle on its hands from local councils, environmental groups and local residents if tries to force expansion through.

Although the delay is extremely disappointing it may well be further evidence that the plans for a new runway are falling apart.

I will keep up the fight to save our local community from this disastrous proposal.
