I have organised a public meeting for this Thursday 9th October at 7.30 pm at Grange Park Primary School in Lansbury Drive Hayes to discuss the agreement we have now secured with the Council for the development of the Grange site for community use.
After years of campaigning we have forced the council to accept our compromise solution for the future of this currently derelict site. The proposal is for part of the site to be developed for housing which will fund the construction of a new community centre on the site.
This is a major breakthrough for the campaign, which we have waged as local residents for over 15 years, from when the council closed and then demolished our youth and community centre. We established the Grange Residents Association to serve as the voice of local residents and to mobilise support for our campaign. Members of the association have worked tremendously hard on behalf of the local community alongside their local councillor Peter Curling and myself.
I interviewed Rita Kiss, a local resident who has been a leading light in the campaign over all these years.
