Ideas Wanted for our New Year Work Programme

Happy New Year to Everyone.

I hope you had a good Christmas break.

I am currently working on my local work programme for 2007. This sets out the key issues I aim to focus on over the coming year, in addition to all the usual day to day activities I undertake dealing with local constituents’ individual problems and working with local community groups.

I will put the main elements of this programme up on this website over the next week.

To a large extent this wiill be based upon the issues raised at the local community conference I convened in December. However if you have any ideas on the issues you would like me to concentrate on over the next period please let me know.

On a great note to start the New Year I would like to pay tribute to our local schools, their heads, governors, staff, pupils and parents for the superb results they achieved last year. The league tables published by the Department for Education late last year demonstrated excellent results in our schools, with some of our primary schools in particular producing some of the best results in the borough. In the various inspection reports on our secondary schools the hard work and commitment of teachers and headteachers was demonstrated time and time again with standards rising significantly in many areas.

Teachers and school staff can have a tough job and can take a fair bit of flack at times. I just want to say thank you to our local teachers and school staff for all their hard work in seeking to give our children the best start in life.
