I visited Dr Tripletts, one of our local primary schools, this week to launch a credit union for children. Hillingdon Credit Union is promoting the role of credit unions in teaching children about savings and how to manage money. I am the patron of the credit union and so I dropped in to see how the preparations for the launch were going.
Pauline Stentaford-Till is the develpoment worker for Hillingdon Credit Union and she has been working with the children and teachers to set the union up in the school. Apart from promoting the value of saving there are also so many other benefits for the children in participating in a credit union. Several children have volunteered as cashiers, receiving the deposits and using their maths to adding up and record how much each child is saving.
If the world’s bankers had taken as much care as the children at Dr Tripletts we would not be experiencing the current credit crunch.
In this short video Pauline explains the role and benefits of the credit union.
