Opening of Hayes Cricket Clubhouse Extension

On Sunday I opened the new extension to Hayes Cricket Club’s clubhouse. For some years I have had the honour of being the patron of the club.

Despite some difficulties about 6 years ago when the club’s future was not looking very certain, the club’s fortunes have been turned round by the hard work of a group of volunteers forming the club’s management committee.

This year the first team won it league and there are now second and third and Sunday teams. Impressively the club has developed a thriving youth section in its colts teams. Throughout the spring and summer over 100 youngsters turn out every Sunday for training and play matches in the week.

The club hosts a range of social activities, including a thriving pensioners Friday lunchtime club.

The extension was needed to accommodate the various activities and was fundeed by a number of fundraising activities and a grant from Hillingdon Community Trust.

I interviewed Keith Wallis, one of the club officers who has been one of the main driving forces behind the rejuvenation of the club.
