Last week we presented a petition to the Deputy Mayor for London, Richard Barnes, calling upon the Mayor and Greater London Authority to provide a bus route that links up Pump Lane in Hayes, enabling people to access Hayes Working Mens’ Club and the various shops, offices and factories in the Pump Lane area. This is needed as more and more people are using this area and need public transport to reach its facilities.

The U7 was extended to serve Sainsbury’s. On the bus it states it goes to Sainsbury’s but it stops by the petrol station which is a long way from the store. You cannot wheel the trolley to the bus so if u have a lot of shopping and are frail you still have to get a minicab as dial-a-ride is unreliable.
The 90 bus could be projected to turn around at the Ossie Garvin thereby allowing it to serve the bingo hall and the Grapes and Sainsbury’s and save frail people from a long walk. This would also benefit people comming into Coldharbour Lane from the Uxbridge Road.

I appreciate what you are saying but there is real problem for older people in particular who are not as mobile accessing the shops, club and other facilities at the eastern end of Pump Lane. The Hayes Working Men’s Club has over 500 older members and a bus service would greatly help them. This area is becoming a new extension to the town centre and so a bus route is increasingly needed, otherwise we will see an increase in car traffic and pollution. So we should do all we can to encourage a more sustainable transport solution now. The width restriction issue could be overcome as it is eleswhere by TfL.

Surely people can walk the short distance from Station Road/Coldharbour Lane to the Working Mens Club? Many bus routes stop 5 mins away and come from all over the borough. We also have a limited width restriction in Pump Lane that would have to be removed leaving Hayes open to lorries entering the town.
