Refurbishing Townfield Community Centre

On Monday I attended the launch of the refurbishment of Townfield Community Centre. As a result of lack of maintenance over the years by the council the Townfield Community Centre became derelict. Local residents and community groups lost a much needed meeting place. Now thanks to a grant from the Government work has started to refurbish and reopen the centre for the community.

£5000,000 has been awarded from the Government’s Community Assets fund so that the centre can be modernised and expanded, providing a meeting placeand a community cafe.

Age Concern will manage the centre on behalf of the community, providing access to information, advice, training and social care support.  John has worked with local residents, local councillors and Hillingdon Community Trust to bring the centre back into community use and to ensure local people are fully involved in the restoration project..
