Save Cherry Lane Cemetery Public Meeting at Botwell Church Hall at 7.30pm on 19 November

We are holding a further public meeting about the threat to Cherry Lane Cemetery on 19th November at 7.30pm at Botwell Church Hall. The campaign is to save our cemetery from the threat of a road being driven through it by BAA as a link road to the proposed third runway and sixth terminal. The new runway will generate on BAA’s own figures at least 23 million additional vehicle movements a year. To get cars and lorries into and out of the expanded airport BAA have inevitably had to propose a new road network, including a road through our local cemetary. This is a disgraceful sacrilege, all to maximise BAA’s profits. We have mobilised a massive campaign amongst local residents and I have presented the campaign petition to Parliament and raised this issue in debates and in Prime Minister’s question time. We continue the fight against this disastrous proposal. Please do come along to the public meeting to see how you can help.

I’ll be there chained to the gates if it does ever go ahead. Demolision workers would have to put up a fight against a small army!!

John McDonnell I Lived in Hayes for years after the last war. I am upset to think that my mother-who endured bombing in London, is now threatened with being removed from her final (?) resting place. I have other relatives buried there also. I was married in Harlington Church and hope that BAA has a rethink about their plans.

I am Airport Worker and my mum was recently buried at Cherry Lane.  I have a question, I thought exisiting graves were not going to be impacted by expansion.  Has there been any confirmation whether this is the case?

John,
My brother, father, grandparents, uncle, aunts, cousins and friends are all burried at Cherry Lane.  How dare they exhume our loved ones.  How can they still inter our dead with knowledge that they intend to knock it all down and build a road, for an all ready over conjested airport.  Heathrow
had a third runway 23/05 till
they used it as a taxiway.  I find it absolutely disgusting of BAA to do this.  Money grabbing mob.  Words can not describew how our family feel.
Good luck John with your quest.

Surely this cannot go ahead. They can’t do this to such a sacred place.I have relatives and friends buried there. No way can this happen. For the sake of BAA getting a few more pounds in their pocket.Surely there will be national outrage.

My family has had a plot at the cemetery for over 50 years. Three generations of the Walker family are buried their. I think what BAA is proposing is sacrilegious and everything that can be done should be done to ensure the plans ddo not go ahead.

Truly i can’t believe this kind of decision which is being made by BAA and some of their supporters to be honest enough.I have got my daughter’s grave there at this Cherry lane cemetery. Why is that the Government is not supporting people’s will to our beloved ones and try stop this unrespected manner to its people. All this is being done just because of money and i don’t think this is fair to everyone who’s concerned about this issue. To my surprise why is the Government is not stopping people to keep on burying their friends and relatives on this cemetery, truly this is not showing proper and good reflection to the Government and BAA.

John,
you can add me to your petition. I moved away from the area 6/7 years ago but visit my family regularly who still live in the area.
My ancestors came from Hillingdon, Hayes, Colnbrook, Datchet, Dorney, Longford and surrounding areas. We are fed up with BAA blighting out lives. None of the family have worked directly or indirectly for the airport. Even when travelling for business or pleasure - it is usually from another airport.
When my uncle sold his house in Longford 20+ years ago he was prevented from putting it on the open market - he had to sell to BAA because BAA had somehow found a legal loop hole forcing him to sell it to them. This smelt of big brother to me then and still does.
My father, great grandparents and my grandparents friends are all buried there to name but a few.
I visit the cemetary several times a year to tend my fathers grave and last year took my 2 year old (his only grandchild that he never knew).
The last thing my father did for me was to change his mind from having a cremation to a burial so that I had a place to meet him (mad as it might seem I chat to the grave when I’m there because I miss my dad).
The grave that was bought is large enough so that my mother can be buried with him one day.
Are BAA in bed with Shirley Porter the ex leader of Westminster Council didn’t she try to build on a cemetary before fleeing the country for Israel owing millions!

Here we go again, the BAA will again steamroller this through, not caring about anybody they upset or annoy. I have several members of my family buried at Cherry lane including my parents, 4 aunts/uncles and 2 grandparents.
The BAA should not be allowed to build the 3rd runway or T6, and it should be up to the goverment to stop them.

I csnt believe that baa are proposing that they build a road through all our loved ones memorial grave stones. Its not right that they are even suggesting this awful idea. Many of my beloved family members are buried there and will be utterly distraught and also angry if they destroy there resting place. Why do we need another new road any way theres lots of them as it is !!!

My father died three years ago.  Not long.  He was buried at the Cherry Lane Cemetry.  I take my elderly mother to the cemetry regularly to see my dad and get some peace.  My mother has bought a double plot, so that one day she can be at rest with her soulmate.  How can it be legal/justifiable/whatever you want to call it to move bodies/graves/headstones?????  Can you imagine me having to tell my 81 year old mother that her husband will be dug up??? It would be helpful if someone could tell me how to explain this horrible situation to my mother?
