Save Harlington Dower House

Last week the Dower House in Harlington was damaged by a major fire. The Police are investigating the cause of the fire. If you have any information please contact the local Police. The house is at least 350 and possibly 500 years old. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in our area. It is a listed building and a local heritage site. Last month a planning application was turned down for a large scale hotel development incorporating the Dower House. Only last year I was instrumental in setting up the Hayes and Harlington Conservation Panel, which comprises local residents who are concerned to protect our local heritage. We are committed as a community to preserving our local heritage. I will be convening a meeting of local residents and community groups with the Conservation Panel, the council, the local history society and English Heritage to see how we can secure the restoration of this important building to its former glory.

Nicky,
Please don’t be disappointed. The Local History Society was present. The relevant Council officers couldn’t attend because it was the night of the Council’s conservation forum meeting and they had to at that. It was shotrt notice for English Heritage and so as I reported to the meeting we are arranging a meeting with the Council and English Heritage, hopefully within the next fortnight. In the meantime we are in regular contact with them. I am raising the issue of protecting our heritage buidings in Parliament next week so this may help in engendering a sense of urgency. John
