Every year a part of London is chosen for a major cycling event called the Sky Ride. A route through a town is designated for the Sky Ride and thousands of people turn up to cycle the route and in this way promote cycling and a healthy lifestyle. Hayes was chosen for this year’s Sky Ride and this morning I joined lots of local people and people from across London to cycle the route through Barra Hall Park,on to Lake Farm and Hayes Hawks BMX track, through Hayes Town Centre, then through the Railway estate, and further on to Minet Country Park and cycle track and then back through Townfield, past St Mary’s and back to Barra Hall. It was a really great event with lots of children and families coming out to ride the circuit or spectate and wave the cyclists on. I know there was some inconvenience with road closures but it is a once in a life time event and I hope people didn’t mind too much. I interviewed Pam and Kevin Gates from Barnhill just before they set off on the ride.
