Southall Gasworks Site Consultation

Plans have been put forward from the National Grid to develop the Southall Gasworks site, which runs alongside our Minet Country Park and the Grand Union Canal. The proposals are for an immense new development of 4000 properties. This development will have an enormous impact on Hayes as one of the main points of access and egress from the site is a road planned to run from the gasworks site across the south of the Minet open space and onto the Hayes by-pass at Pump Lane.

Although the site is in Ealing, Hillingdon Council will have an important role in deciding if the development will go ahead in its present form because the planned road goes across Hillingdon land.

My worry is that although Ealing has been negotiating with the developers to get the best deal for its people, Hillingdon Council, on the instructions of the leader of the council, has refused to discuss or negotiate with the developers. I asked the developers to hold an exhibition in Hayes last Saturday because I believe that local people need to know about the consequences for our area.

There are major environmental issues such as the increased traffic and pollution that need to be addressed urgently as this planning application is considered by both Ealing and Hillingdon.

I am calling on Hillingdon council to let the people know more about the implications for Hayes and to determine the best deal possible to protect our area.
