There is no longer a Parliamentary Majority for a Third Runway.

This is the press release I have sent out today after I heard that the Conservatives have now joined with me and the Greens, the Liberal Democrats and Respect in opposing the third runway at Heathrow. After campaigning against further airport expansion for over thirty years I am grateful for the support we are now getting across the political parties.

Press Release

Labour MP Calls Upon the Government to Recognise that there is No Parliamentary Majority for Heathrow Third Runway.

Labour MP John McDonnell, whose constituency includes Heathrow airport, has called upon the Government to recognise that there is no longer a majority in Parliament for a third runway at Heathrow.

John said “It is now clear that there is a majority of MPs coming from all parties to oppose a third runway at Heathrow. The Government should now recognise that it cannot bulldoze this issue through against the wishes of a majority in Parliament and should commence a fresh round of cross party talks to secure agreement on a long term way forward for investment in our transport infrastructure.”
