I called in to visit Minet Junior School on Avondale Drive in Hayes this afternoon (Friday 24th October) to speak to Headteacher, Steve Foot.
Steve has been the headteacher for a number of years now and has devoted himself to giving our children the best start in life possible. He has attracted a very dedicated staff team and has worked really hard to ensure that parents are fully involved in the school’s activities. The school has gained an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of all its children and providing them with a really good education. Minet Juniors is a little educational jewel at the heart of our community.
The school is planning a multi-cultural festival for next May to celebrate and also teach the children about all the varied cultures that make up our local community. I met with Steve to see how I could help. The aim is to have a week-long festival during which different local community groups visit the school to demonstrate their national dress, songs, dance and also even their cuisine. This could range from Scottish and Irish dancing, to Panjabi music, Kurdish dance, English folk songs and Somali cookery.
If you can help at all or you are part of a local community group that could join in the festival please contact me and we will link you up with the school as we plan the festival.
I interviewed Steve about how the school is getting along and about next year’s school festival.
