Press Release: John McDonnell MP visits Barnhill Community School’s Financial Educational Class

John McDonnell will visit Barnhill Community School on Friday to speak with the students who have been undertaking an innovative course in personal finance and financial studies.

Barnhill Community School are one of the few school to provide their students with these qualifications before they are introduced into the existing Citizenship and Maths curriculum.

It has been revealed that independent studies from both Ofsted (2008 & 2011) and the University of Manchester (2009) have indicated that these qualifications are the most effective means of improving young people’s financial skills, confidence and knowledge.

John McDonnell said “it is extremely important that our young people have the opportunity to gain the skills and confidence they need to make informed financial decisions. I congratulate the staff at Barnhill Community School on their forward thinking and implementing this initiative ahead of its inclusion in the curriculum.”
