John McDonnell MP said “I was contacted urgently by my constituents in Cerne Close and Camden Avenue when they saw the council cutting down trees and making their homes insecure by opening up access to the rear of their properties. I visited the site and saw trees being cut down. When I contacted the council I was told by a senior officer working directly to the leader of the council that no trees were being cut down. This is after I had seen a tree felled with my own eyes. The residents are naturally very angry that the council has failed to consult them and I am angry that the council has blundered in cutting down trees prior to the bird nesting season and destroying a wildlife area whilst making people’s homes less secure. This is all without any discussion with local residents. Yet again it shows that the council and its leader treats residents in Hayes with contempt and once more ride roughshod over their wishes. I am calling for an immediate halt to this municipal vandalism and for residents to be properly consulted and involved in determining the future of this site. It shows that local democracy just doesn’t exist in Hillingdon under this council.”
