Say No to the Third Runway at Heathrow

I challenged the Prime Minister at Prime Minister's Question Time about his past statements opposing Heathrow Airport Expansion and his commissioning of the Davies Report, which has recommended potentially two new runways at Heathrow. I reminded him that many local people supported him at the last election because of his statement "No ifs, no buts, there will be no third runway at Heathrow airport" but that now as a result of his Davies Report many felt that they had lost faith in him as someone who kept his word. Needless to say, I received a fairly meaningless reply.

No_10_petition.jpgJohn joined Heathrow Villagers, Local Heathrow Ward Councillors, June Nelson and Peter Money and West London MPs to present a letter to No 10 Downing Street calling upon the Prime Minister to honour his commitment in 2010 “No ifs, No buts, No 3rd Runway." Tuesday saw the end of the Airport Commission’s consultation on airport expansion options. John said “I am confident that if we continue our determined campaign we will see off this threat to our villages once again.”

We need to invest in regional airports in my case Blackpool airport was brilliant for people flying to Spain etc. we need a lot more internal flights to major cities in all counties.

Expect you’ve known for hours about the good news on Heathrow – that 3rd runway will only happen if a committee led by MPs agrees it wouldn’t cause greater pollution etc. Well done anyway, John – I’m sure your steady opposition has been a key factor in this success. Clearly, I was over-optimistic here: but at least Cameron’s still not going to decide before next summer.

Respiratory illnesses, noise. Do we never learn? More wealth = ill health. No thanks, really not worth it.

We do not want the increased pollution a third runway will bring. It will reduce the living quality of people blighted by the increased air traffic it will bring. We were living here first we should have a say….!!!!

I grew up in the south of Greater London and, even all those years ago, Heathrow planes were a noise and pollution menace across London. Gatwick was very much welcomed and there’s room to expand it without causing the damage to residents’ lives that threatens the Heathrow area.

Plans to expand Heathrow is complete madness: It is the wrong airport in the wrong place and needs to be phased out and moved. We need a government with the guts and vision to do this. Move Heathrow. Use the area to build an environmentally sound community providing the houses and schools we so desperately need – and get rid of the pollution and resultant ill health, constant and unbearable noise, broken nights sleep, threat of danger from a stowaway crashing through a roof or a flight landing on us….the impact Heathrow has at present on peoples lives is totally unacceptable and should not be allowed to continue let alone EXPAND!!! Is this government completely mad?

No third runway at Heathrow. Pollution, aircraft noise, people loosing their homes, historic buldings being demolished, churches demolished ……..
