Local MP John McDonnell Slams the Council for Neglecting Remembrance Gardens. Poppies were planted across the borough by the council to commemorate the centenary of the First World War and the sacrifices people made on the front line and at home. As part of this programme the council created two flower beds on the open green in Meadow View Road in Hayes with signs stating We Will Remember Them.

John McDonnell MP said “On the very day the Royal British Legion announces their London Poppy Day, I find two remembrance gardens in a shocking state. The sign on the garden states that we will remember them and yet the area is covered with weeds and the sign is barely visable. Even if the site is intended as self-seeding, the lack of weeding has meant this will prove impossible. This is pure neglect on the part of the council which is utterly disgraceful”.
