John’s Monthly Newsletter January 2015

This is a selection of my constituency activities over the last month.

Barretts Estate on Former Hayes FC Ground Meeting 8

I met with residents at Hayes FC to discuss local issues including parking problems on the estate.

Tamil Community Fundraising Event 10

I never fail to be impressed by people’s generosity.  I attended the Tamil Community fundraiser at Botwell Parish Social Centre to raise funds for St Peters Development Society for teachers in schools Sri Lanka.

Cedar Brook Medical Centre Visit 12

I met with local doctors at the Cedar Brook Practice to discuss the challenges facing our local doctors, the NHS provision in the area and how it can be improved.

Hewens Political Students 16

I had a two hour grilling by local students on Parliament, the role of an MP and current affairs. The students were absolutely on the ball and there was a really stimulating discussion.

Carnival Planning Meeting 16

Local community groups came together to plan this year’s carnival. The theme for this year’s Carnival Procession will be ‘Ringing the Changes’. We will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of our local carnival and the diversity of our local community.

Harlington School Council Talk 19

I had a really valuable discussion of local and national issues with pupils drawn from each year group. They gave me lots of ideas for the future of our area.

Minet Country Park Friends Meeting 19

We had a discussion about the Southall gasworks site and how it will impact on the park. As vice chair of the Friends I will be seeking a meeting with the Council to clarify what improvements to the park we can gain from any funding released from the gasworks development.

Friends of Lake Farm Meeting 22

We are planning major new initiatives for our country park and making improvements to the BMX facilities in particular. We are working closely with Lake Farm School to encourage the participation of its pupils and parents in these activities.

Heathrow Primary School 29

I convened a packed meeting of Heathrow villagers to discussion the Heathrow expansion proposals prior to the closure of the consultation by the Airports Commission in February. We are resolute to save their homes and our community.
